Darth Maul Lightsaber Hilt

During his years as a Jedi, Obi-Wan Kenobi fought with three lightsabers. His first had a blue plasma blade and a hilt similar to that of his master, Qui-Gon Jinn. Obi-Wan used this weapon until Darth Maul kicked it into a deep shaft on Naboo. He then constructed a new, blue-bladed lightsaber with a similar design. The full-length, mini Darth Maul lightsaber was a Master Replicas Collectors Society Exclusive. The Master Replicas lightsaber stand is tailored the specific hilt. The stand is comprised of three pieces: a black base and two forks or prongs that support the hilt.
A little cardboard, craft foam, and silver paint can get you a DIY double bladed lightsaber hilt fit for a Sith.
MATERIALS USED:
1 Parchment paper tube (or something similar: paper towel roll, wrapping paper roll, etc.)
1 sheet of 3mm craft foam
Scrap pieces of 5mm craft foam
Scissors
Hot glue gun
Awl or xacto knife for gouging
Scrap pieces of cardstock
4 Seed Beads
White school glue
Foam brush
Chrome silver paint
Red paint (I used Country Red)
Black Metallic paint
Duraclear Gloss Varnish
Paintbrush
I had a few requests for a Darth Maul style double bladed lightsaber, so I made this little tutorial for the hilt. This tutorial is just for the hilt, I didn’t put any blades on it, because they’re easier to carry around cons when they’re just hilts. But if you want blades on yours, you can leave the ends of your cardboard tube open, and glue your blades in there. (I do have a tutorial for making lightsaber blades as well. Click here if you want to check that out).
The cardboard tube I used came from a roll of parchment paper, making it a little thinner than the standard wrapping paper roll size, but a wrapping roll would still work fine too. It’d just be a little thicker. The metallic silver paint I used can get a bit sticky during warmer weather, so a good practice to go over the entire thing with a coat of clear acrylic varnish when you’re finished. It’ll seal in the silver paint and keep it from melting all over your costume.
There are so many different lightsabers in the Star Wars universe now, which one is your favorite?
